Build your first quote
Every quote lives inside a job — there is no standalone quotes page yet. You build it in the recipe-first builder, which recalculates your totals and margin as you type and saves automatically.
- Open Jobs, pick the job, then open its Quote tab. Or tap New quote on the dashboard and choose the job in the Pick a job to quote dialog.
- Tap New quote draft (or Start the first quote if the job has none). SmartM8 numbers it for you —
Q-0001,Q-0002and so on — and opens the builder as a draft. - Tap + Add from recipe to drop in a priced bundle, + Add category to add a section, or + Add line for a one-off item.
- Fill in each line: description, quantity, unit (ea, m, m², m³, hr or day), unit cost and markup %. The line total updates as you type.
- Watch the sidebar as you go: Live totals shows Subtotal, GST · 10% and Total, and Live margin shows your margin with a health word — healthy, tight, thin or over budget.
There is no save button anywhere. Edits save on their own moments after you stop typing — the pill in the top bar shows Saving…, then Saved just now. If a save fails you'll see Save failed · tap to retry. Close the tab mid-quote and the draft is waiting exactly where you left it.
